About Me

I’m Kate Nelmes, I’m 20 years old and a bit of a film nut. I’d have to be to even consider going into editing! I originate from East Sussex, England and moved to Orlando, Florida in October of 2009. I currently attend Valencia College and I'm majoring in Film Production Technology. I'm also a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
I have experience in both personal & professional film making. I've been director, writer, producer, editor, production assistant, costume designer, and talent for personal shorts, some that have been entered into festivals/challenges. Professionally, I was assistant to the writer/producer on the thriller 'Missionary', 2nd Assistant Director on the promotional trailer for the 17th Annual Valencia Film Celebration, and I am currently co-editor for the short 'Welcome to the South'. I have also written a book with my reviews/analysis/opinions on 212 films that I watched in 7 months. I also co-wrote a short comedic play called 'We Should Of Done Titanic' about a group of students writing and performing a play.
Why do I want to edit? Because I love putting the film together. I get all excited and giddy when I see a film gradually coming together and then getting hyper because, and I quote, "it looks so AWESOME!" I know that it takes a very long time but once I see what my editing is doing, I immediately want to keep going because I desperately want to see the end result; I have been known to stay in the editing room until 1am. I made a 3 minute short film ['Step Backwards'] in less than 2 days and I managed to create a 47second animated short film ['Girl Days; a South Park tribute'] in less than 16 hours. Its safe to say that once I get into it, there's no stopping me!
The editing softwares I've worked with are Final Cut Pro 9, and many Sony Vegas programs. I currently own and operate Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10. I'm also very familiar with Adobe Photoshop for photographs and images, and also Microsoft Expression 3 for webdesign. I owned and ran a website for the actress Emma Watson for over 4 years, and I ran the 17th Annual Valencia Film Celebration website as part of the promotions team.
I've loved film ever since I was little. Going to the cinema was always a big event and treat for me and my family. I remember one of the first times I went to the cinema, back in England. I saw The Hunchback of Notre-dame with my dad when I was 5 and I remember watching Quasimodo swing on the screen and then off and I looked around the theater, looking for him. I just remember getting so involved in the film and its been that way for me ever since. The cinema is my favorite place in the whole world, its where I'm the happiest. I love the smell of the popcorn and the excitement of seeing a new film on a massive screen in a dark room with a bunch of strangers. I love being transported to another world.
